    Transitive and intransitive verbs

    Verbs: Intransitive and transitive.
    Hầu hết các động từ trong tiếng Anh đều thuộc hai loại động từ này.
    INTRANSITIVE VERBS.
    Intransitive verbs không có object theo sau. Ta có thể dùng chúng như ví dụ sau:
    Something is happening. ( happen: không có object theo sau)

    I'll wait. (wait: không có object theo sau)

    It doesn't matter.
    Tuy nhiên chúng ta có thể thêm từ hoặc cụm từ chỉ thời gian, nơi chốn, thể cách.... theo sau những verbs này.
    Something is happening in the street.
    I will wait for a few minutes.
    It doesn't matter at all.
    Chú ý: Intransitive Verbs không dùng được ở thể passive.
    Không nói: It was happened. Hoặc : They were died.
    Ta nói: It happened. They died.
     
    TRANSITIVE VERBS.
    Transitive verbs phải có object theo sau nó mới làm sáng tỏ ý nghĩa.
    Bạn thử xem câu này.
    I bought yesterday. (Câu này không rõ nghĩa. Mua cái gì hôm qua?)
    She bought that dress in London. (Không nói: She bought in London)
    Did you find the key? (Không nói: Did you find?)
    Chú ý: một số verbs có object là một clause
    I wish she would stop smoking. (Trong trường hợp này, she would stop smoking là một object)
     
     
    VERBS THAT CAN BE TRANSITIVE OR INTRANSITIVE.
    Một số verbs vừa là transitive, vừa là intransitive.
    There's no need to shout. (intransitive)
    Someone shouted my name. (transitive)
    Where do you want to meet? (intransitive)
    Where do you want to meet her? (transitive)
    I'm sorry I don't understand. (intransitive)
    I'm sorry I don't understand your explanation. (transittive)
     
    OTHER VERBS.
    Một số verbs có thể được theo sau bởi adjective.
    You seemed tired.
    It all sounds very interesting.
    Was he angry?
